A period of 3½ years is a recurring theme in end-time Bible prophecy. The Beast that is described in the later chapters of Revelation is to receive power and authority from Satan for a period of 42 months (Revelation 13:5). That is the same length of time that gentiles will "tread" Jerusalem underfoot (Revelation 11:2). In Jerusalem, God promises to raise up two prophets to be His witnesses for 1,260 days. God "feeds" or provides for the woman of chapter 12, representing God's chosen people, for 1,260 days (verse 6). We are told she will be "nourished for a time and times and half a time [3½ years], from the presence of the serpent" (Revelation 12:14).

Daniel referred to a coming deceiver as a pompous "little horn" arising among the 10 horns on the fourth beast, warning that "the saints shall be given into his hand [as martyrs] for a time and times and half a time [3½ years]. But the court shall be seated, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and destroy it forever" (Daniel 7:25-26).

In another end-time prophecy, Daniel speaks of "the power of the holy people" as being shattered for the same period of time—3½ years (Daniel 12:7). This recurring reference certainly appears to be significant, indicating that a total of 3½ years will elapse from the beginning of Satan's attack on the people of God until God destroys his military and religious system and locks him away at Christ's return.

Regarding the 1,290 days and the 1,335 days referred to in Daniel 12:11-12, the context doesn't clearly explain these times. Nor do we have clear understanding of them from another part of the Bible. But we can have confidence that those who wait patiently on God through these terrible times will be blessed in God's soon-coming Kingdom.

With a correct reading of this passage an alternate understanding could easily be 24 The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. 25 He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.[b]

where " He (another king ... ff.) (Hitler) will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people (the Jews), for 3 1/2 years ".

It is not clear that the 1260 days of Revelation 12:14 are actual days (as detailed in this article) or prophetic days being 1260 years. In his booklet "Who or What is the Prophetic Beast", Mr Armstrong wrote that the 1260 days represented a time from the setting up by Justinian, the "Imperial Restoration" of the Empire. Starting in 554 AD until the crushing of Napoleon in 1814, was the period of the healed Beast - a period of exactly 1260 years.

“And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

To me, Daniel's 1,290 is crystal clear. From the time that 2 events occur, the cessation of the sacrifice and the abomination of desolation, there will be 1,290 days until the end of the Great Tribulation period which begins 30 days later and begins at Daniel's 1,260th day. The 30 days may represent a time for the church to flee, and quite possibly all of the nations where Israel has settled will fall in judgment during this period per Hosea. What then is Daniel's 1,335th day? Since the sacrifice is stopped at Daniel's 1,290th day, I think the 45 days between may be the period when the sacrifice is going on. Daniel's 1,335th day also represents 1,335 days until the end of the Great Tribulation period from that point.

In terms of time, the 1,335th day occurs first, then the 1,290, then the 1,260th day of Daniel, the beginning of the Great Tribulation period.

The "end times" is 7 years long and is divided into two segments of 1260 days each.
in the first 1260 days the first 4 Seals are completed and in the last 1260 days Seals 5, 6, and 7 are completed

30 days before the first 1260 days begin the Daily Sacrifice is stopped or prevented thus 1290 days.
The 2nd Exodus takes place during the 75 days after the return of Jesus Christ thus 1260 plus 75 = `1335.

The Day of the LORD is the last year of the 7 years and the great tribulation takes up the first 2 1/2 years of the 1260 days or 3 1/2 years.
Christ states the tribulation must be cut short or no flesh would live but not one day is cut off the last 1260 days - how can that be? the 6th Seal takes place on the last day of the 900 days of the Great Tribulation.

I was baptized in November of 1969 and never in all that time heard any speak of the first 1260 days they only focused on the great tribulation which begins the 5th Seal.

Your endtimes studies are excellent. I suggest the following explanation of Daniel 12:11,12. According to Josephus the dates of the siege on Jerusalem by Romans was from Nov 66AD (WARS 2.19) until July 70AD or 1290 days. WARS 6.6.2 describes the unexplained end of the siege of the Tower of Antonia by Titus, the last holdout of Jews. 45 days later the holdouts were offered total pardon upon surrender (1335 days).
In Matt 24:15 Jesus is answering the FIRST question of His disciples: when would the temple be in ruins - "things they could see". His answer from vs 4 - 26 agrees with Josephus description of events, including the escape of all Christians who heeded His words and went to the mountains. Verse 20 is a CONTRAST by Jesus of His coming back, His disciples expected His return at the same time. "NOT so,",, there would no SIGNS of His coming as He emphasized even into Matt 25.
Little horn of Dan 8:9ff is Antiochus Epiphanes, the origin of Hannakuk is described through vs 14.
Following Bible historical events that directly impacted the Hebrews, I see in the very detailed account in Dan 11, Antiochus Epiphanes ending the regular sacrifices (abomination). ..vs 36+ = King Herod

That would be incorrect. Because it says in verse 29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."

That didn't happen...and thus the previous events haven't happened yet either

The first 1260 days is also linked with Revelation 12:6.

What is very important is WHEN the devil is cast down because he knows his time is short[verse 12], so this 3 1/2 years is THE beginning of his world-wide revenge upon those other than the 144,000 who are NOT sealed.

People have speculated for years but it is written there in verse 5 after Jesus Christ was born (died, resurrected) & then taken to the throne of God, in the next verse the woman flees until THE 1260 days have been established safeguarding her.

  • Peter John Hutchison

Aaron I agree with you that it is important when the Devil is cast out of heaven. Christ said the day before he was sacrificed, Joh_12:31  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. Satan was not cast out until sometime after Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. My guess is the same as yours about the start of the tribulation. This timing of Satan's casting out of hHeaven is of course in direct conflict with the church narrative on the creation - recreation.
