×The brand new beachfront Jekyll Island Convention Center is complete and will be the center of activity for this year’s Feast of Tabernacles on Jekyll Island. This impressive and modern facility with all its amenities adds a new dimension to an island that is already well-known for its miles of beautiful, unspoiled beaches and acres of natural habitat.
The first Feast of Tabernacles on Jekyll Island was held in 1963. Since then, more Feasts have been held here than at any other modern-day location, and for good reason. The island provides a serene and millennial retreat-type setting that is ideal for worship, fellowship, sharing meals together and enjoying the considerable recreational activities that take advantage of the island’s natural features.
People and families of every age can find something exciting and interesting to do on the Island. Feastgoers can enjoy swimming, shell-collecting and long walks or jogs along 10 miles of white sand beaches. Horseback riding on the beach, dolphin tours, golf, miniature golf, tennis, fishing (requires a license), hiking and bike-riding along the beach are popular activities readily available on the island. The Tidelands Nature Center offers kayak and canoe rentals, as well as guided nature walks and indoor and outdoor exhibits to help you explore land and sea life (including sea turtles) on the island. For those interested in history, the unrivaled charm of the Jekyll Historic District, located along the Intracoastal Waterway, can be toured by tram or on foot.
In addition to daily services, Bible studies, and seminars, scheduled Feast activities will include the Seniors lunch, possibly a formal dinner dance and other group activities scheduled in and around the island. The popular Family Day will be held at the new Great Dunes Park and Beach Pavilion. Youth Bible lessons are being planned for a few days during the Feast.
A wide variety of Festival housing is available on the island in rented homes, hotels and condominiums. For those who enjoy camping, the Jekyll Island Campground offers 18 wooded acres on the island’s north end, with 206 sites from tent sites to full hook-up, pull-through RV sites with electricity, cable TV, water and sewerage.
Temperatures in October are likely to vary between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit (16 to 24 degrees Celsius) with the possibility of rain. Major airports for arrival and departure are Jacksonville, Florida, and Savannah, Georgia, which are both an hour away, and Brunswick, Georgia, which is within 20 miles of the site. A rental car is advised. There is a $5.00 toll per vehicle every time one enters the island.
