2016 Camp Report: Camp Cotubic

Camp Cotubic, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, had to be moved to a later week on the calendar (June 25-July 3) to avoid a conflict with the Day of Pentecost. Even though this overlapped with four of our other United Youth Camps, Camp Cotubic experienced an increase in camper attendance. This year 131 campers came to enjoy an exciting week at camp, served by 49 staff members.

Camp Cotubic always provides a quiet and beautiful environment for our teens to come out of the world and focus their attention on strengthening their relationship with God and each other. The weather this year was perfect, with daily high temperatures averaging in the low- to mid-80s.

We had our traditional line-up of activities consisting of high ropes, climbing wall, dance class, arts and crafts, volleyball, soccer and watersports. This year we took a break from basketball and softball and replaced them with gaga ball and football. The wilderness skills class became a hybrid of wilderness skills and the amazing race. Also this year, Mitch and Dana Moss conducted a team-building class, which was very well received. This is the first time that we have conducted a team-building class, and it provided an opportunity to discuss biblical principles in a very practical way.

In addition to the daily Christian living classes focused around the overall camp theme, “Guided by God’s Word,” the campers also participated in a practical Christianity class where they were divided into small groups and each group created a list of the “Benefits of Keeping the Ten Commandments.” Every camper was given their own copy of the compiled list at the conclusion of camp.

This year, we decided to hold a camper vs. staff soccer match instead of the traditional softball game, to allow for greater participation. While the staff held an early and commanding lead, the campers staged an amazing rally in the closing minutes and lost by only one goal. The stage is now set for a possible rematch in 2017!

Planning has already begun for Camp Cotubic 2017. The dates will be June 18-25, 2017, so mark your calendars, start saving for your tuition, and plan to attend!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support of the entire camp program.
