2019 Camp Report
Preteen Camp Buckeye
The weather was perfect this year with only one brief shower that arrived just before lunch on Tuesday, but ended before lunch was over.
This year we made several changes to the schedule and were able to increase the amount of time for fun in the swimming pool. We kept archery, arts and crafts, canoeing, court games, fishing, field games, indoor games and watersports. This year we dropped team building and added a service project into the schedule.
The children at Camp Buckeye participated in the assembly of 53 backpacks that will be given to children in the Ohio foster care system. Each backpack contained a fleece blanket, toothbrush, toothpaste, playing cards and a few other games. We also included a little card stating “A gift for you from the children at United Youth Camps” and on the reverse we had children write their first name to make it more personal.
Tuesday, Aug. 5, all 53 backpacks were delivered to the Foster Care Center of Lorain County by Mrs. B.J. Thomas along with Keith and Stephanie Feador. The staff were thrilled to receive the backpacks and were very impressed with them! They wanted to express their gratitude for the kindness shown by the campers and staff of United Youth Camps.
The three Christian Living classes covered topics addressing how special it is to be called by God, not to be like the world, and the dangers of being prideful. Our evening campfire activities included Minute-To-Win-It games and the popular campfire sing-along conducted by Mr. Mark Graham.
We are always thankful to God for his continued protection and blessings. Camp Luz is a wonderful venue and we plan to return next year!
