The alarm rang at a bright and early 2:30 a.m., and we prepared for the flight to Jamaica. We met up with Sierra, Jason, Cassidy, and Courtney at the Home Office, then carpooled together to the airport. As we checked in, we noticed that Zach was nowhere to be found, but were confident he would arrive in adequate time. As we all made our way to our gate, we discovered he was delayed and would be traveling on a later flight. Two hours later, we arrived in Charlotte where we met up with David. We had time to enjoy a quick coffee before boarding our connection to Jamaica!

It was a toasty day in Montego Bay and we were all keen to get to camp. We swiftly made our way through customs and eagerly met our taxi. After loading the luggage, only five seats remained for seven passengers! Needless to say, we had a very amusing and cuddly drive to our camp base, and the lady driver was very sweet! The vast contrast in living conditions greatly impressed upon my mind -- along the streets we could view old iron shanties and then only meters away, grand mansions. We drove in silence for a long while as we took in the scenery. It was unlike anything I have ever experienced! An hour and a half later, we arrived at Jam Villa in Ocho Rios.

The campers gradually began to arrive in the early afternoon. As we greeted them, we showed them to their rooms and assisted them in settling in. I was thrilled to meet the staff and campers with whom we would be spending the next five days! Everyone was so warm and energetic, and we quickly bonded as friends. Suddenly, the evening came and Mr. Smith introduced the staff and counselors to all the campers, followed by the focus, expectations, and meaning of Camp Jamaica 2015 -- Out of many, One. This motto highlighted the type of environment and spirit we aimed to create for these wonderful youth, and I believe this was developed and achieved throughout our time at camp. At the conclusion of this, we all joined in prayer before sharing a delicious dinner!

Before the night ended, Mr. Smith had organized a movie and popcorn activity! This was very effective in settling any nerves the young campers may have had. I helped in preparing the microwave popcorn and putting it into paper bags for the campers to enjoy, which was a lot of fun! As the movie finished, we encouraged the campers to prepare for bed. A short introductory compass check with our eight beautiful young ladies followed by a progressive prayer circle was the perfect way to complete this long but truly satisfying day!
