How do I train my child’s heart?
Dear Parents,
God has given us as parents the responsibility of teaching our children about Him and His Way. The Amplified Bible emphasizes that it is not just a good idea – but an imperative!
Deuteronomy 6:6 {AMP} And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] 7 You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
While we all want to teach our children about God – sometimes we find ourselves at a bit of a loss as to how to most effectively do so. Many parents are very efficient at the task, but others struggle. Each of us can improve.
It is to this end that the United Church of God has asked the Educational Taskforce to help develop a support system for parents of children in the church. While knowledge of the Bible is necessary, it is the internalization and the personal application of His Word that God most desires […these words…shall first be in your own minds and hearts…]. How can we take the concepts and commandments of God and apply them to everyday life? Make them live? Make them relevant in our lives today?
This Family Education Newsletter will be the first of a series of helps, tips, tricks, and ideas for how to better make the Word of God become a part of the minds and hearts of our children.
