A Leader is First a Disciple

This past weekend, the Labor Day Leadership Workshop held in Cincinnati was especially rewarding, productive and enjoyable. With the theme “A Leader is First a Disciple,” we welcomed 27 men and 22 wives from Canada, Chile, Mexico, Nigeria and the United States, giving the event an international flair.

The workshop is designed to equip and inspire participants to improve their effectiveness in serving the Church. Every presentation throughout the weekend was aligned to support this goal. This valuable resource is available to those recommended by their pastors for this educational opportunity.

Over the course of the weekend, Darris McNeely, Steve Myers, Gary Petty and Rick Shabi led sessions that engaged participants through lectures and workshops. Topics included “Defending the Faith,” “The Heart and Mind of a Servant,” “A Member for the Vision” and “Your Part in the Work”—all of which encouraged reflection, interaction and active participation.

The “Question and Answer” sessions also proved to be valuable, allowing participants to engage directly with the presenters. These sessions were designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the material and address their specific questions and concerns, enhancing the experience and fostering connections that enable us all to work together as one.

It was a memorable weekend, filled with a genuine spirit of camaraderie and joy. The heartfelt dedication and humble service of our attendees were inspiring to witness, highlighting the unity that comes from working together under a shared purpose. The genuine connections made and the collaborative efforts truly made the weekend an uplifting and enriching experience for everyone involved.

REMINDER: Watch Biblical Worldview Videos

Remember to join United Church of God president, Rick Shabi, as he discusses various topics focusing on the truth of the Bible, giving a biblical worldview on what is happening in our world.

These 10- to 12-minute videos are the Church’s response to headlines you might see in the news, with the aim of reaching people outside our membership, and preaching a warning message, a message of repentance and a message of the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the nations.

You can view all episodes online at ucg.org/beyond-today/beyond-today-daily/a-biblical-worldview.

Daily Bible Reading Program Reminder

Don’t forget to participate in the special daily Bible reading program we introduced two weeks ago. In unity, the entire Church is reading through the book of Deuteronomy.

Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity for daily Bible reading and study. The reading schedule is available by going to the ucg.org home page and clicking on the link for “Daily Bible Reading: The Book of Deuteronomy” or by clicking here: ucg.org/members/news/daily-bible-reading-the-book-of-deuteronomy. Be sure to read the chapter and commentary with your family and discuss it together.

Let’s take advantage of this special activity as the entire Church throughout the world reads and meditates on the same passages each day.
