Letting Our Lights Shine at the Feast
As a way to let that light shine a bit further we identified a local charity in the greater Lancaster, Pennsylvania, area that we collected donations for. This charity, Christ’s Home, has been in continuous operation since 1903 and provides for the needs of vulnerable children and seniors. Christ’s Home maintains a wish-list on Amazon, so we were able to quickly and easily share a list of needed items with our brethren.
We put out the call for donations on Tuesday during the Feast and the love and generosity of our brethren did not disappoint. Needed items and monetary donations began streaming in the next day. By Friday we had collected 329 individually donated items and $2,543 for the purchase of the remaining items on the organization’s wish-list.
Megan Young, an employee of Christ’s Home, responded with the following, “Let me first begin by saying a huge thank you to you and your entire group [for] your generosity in such a difficult season . . . Your donations are such a blessing to our children and staff! Thank you again!”
Being able to coordinate this outreach initiative has been a genuinely fantastic experience for me. I am amazed and humbled by the love and generosity shown by our brethren—they truly fulfilled our commission to “do good to all” (Galatians 6:10).
