It worked so well last year that we decided to do it again this year.

Brethren planned and cooked up international dishes representing countries around the world. Meanwhile, race contestants young and old crafted race cars from blocks of pine. All cars had to meet the five-ounce weight limit to compete. Parents building a Pinewood car with their kids had an opportunity to create special memories.

The big event took place after sundown on Jan. 20. Nearly 120 brethren gathered for Sabbath services followed by the potluck and the race. Steve and Kathe Myers visited from Cincinnati for the weekend. Mr. Myers gave the sermon about our personal responsibility as Church members in the last days.

Race organizers set up the pinewood derby track borrowed from a local Boy Scouts group. The four-lane track was complete with a starting gate and photo finish camera. The craftsmanship of the cars was quite creative and remarkable.

What a fun event and how well done by all those involved! The kids absolutely loved it, staying close to trackside and watching their cars compete. Prizes were awarded for the fastest cars, and many other categories such as funniest, most classic and most creative. Kids and adults of all ages had a great time, eating, socializing and cheering on the cars! The New England UCG international night/pinewood derby social is a winner!
