To learn about God’s plan for us to become sons and daughters of His great family, 136 teens and 72 staff traveled to Camp Cotubic this year and spent a week immersed in the Zone. It was truly a wonderful time surrounded by God’s people. The weather was primarily pleasant. We had a couple of days in the 90s, but there was generally a breeze, so it didn’t seem too bad. Any storms in the area passed us by so we were able to enjoy all of our outdoor activities.

Christian living classes began each day with a focus on becoming sons and daughters of God. After that, the campers were provided with fun and challenging activities. There is always something for every camper, including a high ropes course, archery, arts and crafts, climbing wall, basketball, speedaway, softball, wilderness skills, waterfront and a Bible class. This year we also brought back a media class. Each dorm was tasked with creating a silent video in which the campers and counselors starred as everything from the director to actors and actresses. Our evenings were spent with activities geared around fellowship and fun with dorm challenges, staff and camper games, a grill-out, dances and campfire activities.

The staff did an excellent job of running each activity efficiently while providing lessons in the day’s theme. Watching our teens conquer their fears and never give up on challenges was an inspiration to all of those serving this year. The dorms were encouraging to watch. They were constantly cheering each other on to succeed, and were there to give hugs when their fellow campers’ fears were overcome.

Not only were the activities a wonderful opportunity, but they also encouraged campers to live the Zone in their everyday lives. The Zone is not a one-week event, but a potential way of life. We strive to teach teens that living in the Zone is like living in God’s Kingdom. We all work to build an environment that reflects what Jesus Christ will bring with Him at His return.

As wonderful as camp was, improvements can always be made, so we will be working hard until next year to provide an even better experience for our teens. I look forward to seeing everyone at Camp Cotubic in 2023!
