2022 Feast of Tabernacles
St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada
This year's Feast of Tabernacles was truly a memorable one, for many reasons. All 15 of us from the Newfoundland congregation and two welcomed guests from the mainland were able to assemble daily at the Comfort Inn located in St. John's—North America's oldest city and the most easterly point in North America. This is a quaint city known as the City of Legends.
For a welcomed change the weather was spectacular—warm, sunny and almost tropical. From the full harvest moon on opening night to sundown on the last day of the Feast the spectacular weather continued. Then too, we were all in a joyous mood.
The Heart's Delight Room we used for services was very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and made us feel more than welcome. There were some renovations going on at the time but we were able to adjust to them. The daily webcast from the Jekyll Island, Georgia Feast site, came in loud and clear with a few glitches, but nothing too serious.
Mr. Stanley gave the opening night address that set the tone for the rest of the Feast. He explained why we were there—to learn to fear our God, obey His commands and rejoice. He also said that we should be able to go home from the Feast rejuvenated with spiritual food so that we could handle whatever the coming year brought us. We were able to view Mr. Shabi's opening night address at a later time. The sermonettes, split sermons, sermons and special music gave us encouragement and joy in our special calling. Most speakers made the coming Millennium the main focus of their addresses.
Feast activities included a Canadian Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner on the first day of the Feast provided by Clancey's Restaurant in the host hotel. We also enjoyed a fun afternoon of bowling. Some of us had very low scores but the Squibb family outscored most of us. Next year we should get some lessons from them.
We had an afternoon social and tea hosted by the Penneys in their home in Paradise—lots of food and good fellowship. There were 18 of us in attendance.
Family day was a great success, featuring a Jiggs dinner with all-local vegetables from a member’s farm. He and his wife grew, cooked and served us all. It was truly appreciated. We played Cage Bingo and had some very interesting Bible quizzes.
On the Eighth Day, we had a delicious meal provided by the hotel restaurant. We were able to dine together in a private room. Some of us were able to tune in the Bible Study from the Midland Ontario Feast site presented by Mr. Jim Lucas. He focused on peace and becoming peacemakers.
We all went home from the Feast rejuvenated with plenty of spiritual food. We thank our great God for His bountiful blessing during the Feast of Tabernacles 2022.
