Meet the Caribbean Brethren
We call it our Caribbean family. God called the UCG Caribbean brethren into His work to be shining lights even in the sunny tropics. Life can be hard on the islands, but the members' positive vibe helps them to carry on. Your Caribbean brothers and sisters live on 10 different islands and in two countries in South America.
If you are thinking of getting away to a Caribbean Island, “don't worry, be happy,” as the song says, and visit your UCG island family. Let me be your guide through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and encourage you to meet some of the most beautiful people God has called to preach the gospel and prepare a people in the Caribbean.
Going north to south, you can start in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. The brethren are always happy to have visitors. Each week our Sabbath services are followed by an interactive discussion of the messages with food and friendly fellowship. Through hurricanes and tropical storms, God's people have endured it all. With breathtaking beaches and our loving brethren, you will feel like you are home.
Next you can travel down to the island of Jamaica, mon! Our two churches will welcome you with open arms and share the fruits of God's Work in either Kingston or Montego Bay. If you travel by ship or plane, there are weekly services each and every Sabbath, with Kingston having an interactive Bible study every week. “Mochie” is the combination of brethren from the Montego Bay congregation with the Ocho Rios congregation joining them, compliments of our church bus. Warm weather matched only by the warm hearts of brethren awaits you!
As you travel further south, you can fellowship and spend the Sabbath with God's ecclesia on the island of St. Lucia. The island, called the “honeymoon capital of the Caribbean,” is home to our small but energized congregation in the capital city of Castries. For you cruisers, our church hall is about an eight-minute walk from the cruise ships’ docking station. The fabulous views of this island will pale to the warmth and brotherhood you will feel when you spend a Sabbath with your St. Lucia family. Almost everyone has to make a second trip to this island jewel.
As we travel even further south, we visit the last islands in the Caribbean chain called Trinidad and Tobago. Twin islands, but-oh-so different habitats. Each Sabbath God's people assemble to hear God's Word preached, share genuine fellowship and partake of some of the best foods the world has ever tasted. A nation of diverse cultures, our brethren reflect a love for each other that hopefully many of you can experience by sharing a Sabbath with this part of your Caribbean family.
We also have members on the islands of Grenada, Mustique, Dominica, Haiti and even Cuba. Our farthest churches are in the country of Guyana. Guyana is the only country in South America where English is the national language. Our small churches, one in Long Creek and the other in the interior, have faithful and dedicated members who treasure the Word of God and keep the Sabbath every week. As God moves across the country, we anticipate growth as He has prepared a people and a Church for those to attend. The brethren in Guyana show agape and magnify it to their sphere of the world.
Next time you make vacation plans, “don't worry, be happy” and consider the Caribbean family in your travels. You will not regret it.
If you have an opportunity to visit one of our Caribbean congregations, you can find Sabbath service locations and times under the https://www.ucg.org/congregations website.
