Church of God members from five states enjoyed a weekend of music, fellowship and spiritual food at the ninth annual Wheeling bluegrass family camp out. Official events began on Friday, with afternoon fellowship at the campground as campers arrived.

The Sabbath was relaxing and enjoyable—campers arose to spend the morning sharing fellowship and breakfast on-site. Approximately 50 people were on hand for Sabbath services to hear inspiring messages and beautiful special music—a bluegrass rendition of “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” After a potluck lunch, brethren gathered for a Bible study on the life of Aaron, the first Levitical high priest.

After Sabbath several attendees gathered around for an impromptu sing-along, followed by a bluegrass jam session. The seven musicians played traditional American songs with joyful energy and skill. The evening was memorable, with a beautiful view of lightning in the distance as the band played on.

The festivities continued Sunday morning, with a full-fledged concert in the campground barn. The pickers played a combination of full-band songs and small group numbers, trading off vocalists and instrumentation. Around noon the musicians took a break, and everyone enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch before resuming and finishing the concert and the weekend.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this year’s bluegrass weekend so great! Next year is the 10th anniversary of the event, so hopefully it will be the biggest and best yet. If you’re interested in bluegrass or simply want to fellowship with your brothers and sisters in a fun, family-centered atmosphere, make plans to attend in 2012!
