"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35).

I was on a job interview thousands of miles from home when I visited the Cincinnati East congregation for the first time. I admit I'm a bit shy in new situations, but that melted away as I was welcomed by a beaming Ed Smith. Mr. Smith, a longtime elder who many throughout the Church know as the cheerful song leader on the GCE Sabbath phone hookups, is even more friendly in person. His greeting is genuine, his interest sincere, his laughter infectious. How could anyone not feel welcome with Mr. Smith around!

We can't all be Mr. Smith, but we can all make a concerted effort to welcome any visitors, whether United members or brand-new people just learning about the Sabbath and other biblical truths.

What are some tips for making visitors feel welcome at church? What can we do to avoid making a bad first impression? Your suggestions are welcome! We'd like to print your ideas and stories in a future issue.
