Answer kindly

Peter's epistle instructs us to "be prepared to give an answer…for the hope that you have," but to make sure we always do this "with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15, NIV).

Don't return anger for anger

You may have to answer people who are angry or provocative, but always remember that a "soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1).

Don't use "churchspeak"

Just as Paul became "all things to all men" (1 Corinthians 9:22), we must be sure that we use language our audience will easily understand and identify with. Examples of churchspeak are "the world tomorrow," "second" or "third resurrection" and "deleavening."

Don't be afraid to admit you don't know

No one but God has perfect knowledge, so if you can't answer a question right away, let the person know you will try to find the answer. Seek out the answer from God's Word and then answer the question. "Cry out for discernment…and…you will…find the knowledge of God" (Proverbs 2:3-5).

Pray for wisdom

In your daily prayers, specifically ask for wisdom to know how to best answer questions about God's truth. We all lack wisdom at times, so let us "ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach," and we will receive His wisdom (James 1:5).

Link to existing material

Many times the best answer can come in the form of an article or sermon from the website's archives. Plus, material on the website has already gone through doctrinal review and approval. After all, "in a multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 24:6).

Know your Bible

The best preparation for answering biblical questions is to know your Bible well! Make sure Bible study is a part of your everyday life, because "[God's] word is truth" (John 17:17).

Leska, You might want to read the booklet from this link. It goes into great detail regarding death. http://www.ucg.org/booklet/what-happens-after-death/ You might also want to look at Ecclesiastes 9:5 & 9:10 as well as 2Peter 3:4 The refernce you made to Luke 23:42-43 can be punctuated differently since ancient Greek had no punctuation in writing. Assuredly, I say to you TODAY, you will be with me in Paradise.” Best wishes in your search for the truth!

Some Christians believe in something called “soul sleep.” This is a belief that when we die, our soul will go into an actual state of rest and unconsciousness until the time of our bodily resurrection, which will be explained below. And until that event occurs, all of the “dead in Christ” are now in some type of unconscious, sleep-rest state. For the record, we do not believe or ascribe to this theory. The reason being is that there is one verse in particular that completely discredits this theory. Here is the verse: Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, TODAY you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43) Notice that Jesus tells the thief next to Him on the cross that he will be with Him in Paradise that very day after they both die together, not sometime far off in the future when He comes back for His church. If the soul sleep theory was correct, then God the Father would not be making an exception for this thief on the cross next to Jesus. When Jesus makes this statement to this man, I believe this statement applies to every single believer in Him from that moment on – which means that

Well it's all a matter of Faith, if you are a believer in Jesus when you die, your body will remain in the ground, and your soul goes into the presence of God. No one knows for certain, but I believe you are conscious and await the resurrection of the body, at least that gives more hope , then being just dead till your resurrected. Nevertheless , our hope is in a afterlife in Gods care.

Thanks for the advice. We don't want circular reasoning and contentions for it only leads to anger and negative additudes.
