Notes:
Zechariah 12:10 → I will pour grace and supplication.
He will pour out the spirit in grace and supplication. The Holy Spirit is often equated to water.
Acts 2:17 → The Holy Spirit like water. It is a free flowing river.
It is like that in our life as well, a free flowing river. It can change structure, it can change volume. Sometimes in our life the Spirit is strong and things are going well, sometimes it is the opposite.
Sometime we allow sin in our lives to obstruct our Holy Spirit. It is key for us to notice it in our lives. Sometimes let the flow become a mere trickle.
We will look at two example of pillars in the Bible that went through changes and how their Holy Spirit was affected.
Moses
Exo. 2:11-12 → We see Moses has an issue with anger. Moses has to go into exile and into the wilderness.
Heb. 11:23-29
By faith he changed through a communion with God.
The sins of our youth can come back later in life. Our carnal nature will find us.
Num. 20:1-13 → With all that Moses had done with the Israelites, he was turned away from the Holy Spirit. He still had to bit of carnal spirit.
The lesson of Moses is that we can overcome, repent, and change ourselves.
Peter
How the Holy Spirit can change us in a matter of days.
Luke 22:60-62 → Peter denies Christ 3 times. The Lord turned and looked at Peter.
What would we look like if Christ turned and looked at us. In Peter’s case, it knocked him down quite a bit. When we are knocked down, God can then work with us.
John 13:35 → You will be known as my disciples if you have love for one another.
John 21:15-17 → Peter realized he was over exuberant before and cannot give agape love to Jesus.
This is Peter at his lowest, but you see that he changes quite a bit when he gives the Pentecost sermon in Acts 2. That is what the spirit can do for us.
Peter continues to have issues through his life.
Gal. 2:11 → Paul’s account of standing up to Peter. The Spirit was changing with Peter.
Heb. 11:13 → Seen the promises from far off.
Moses could have seen Jerusalem from Mount Nebo and the promised that he didn’t attain.
