×More Feasts of Tabernacles have been observed on Jekyll Island than any other Feast site and with good reason. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the southern coast of Georgia, Jekyll Island boasts miles of beautiful, unspoiled beaches and acres of natural habitat. The Island provides a peaceful, millennial, retreat-type setting for the Feast of Tabernacles, with abundant opportunities for fellowship, sharing meals together and recreation. Considerable housing and restaurants are available on the Island.
Feastgoers can enjoy swimming, shellcollecting and long walks or jogs along the 10 miles of white sand beaches. The Tidelands Nature Center offers kayak and canoe rentals, as well as guided nature walks and indoor and outdoor exhibits to help you explore land and sea life (including sea turtles) on the Island. Golf, tennis, fishing (requires a license), hiking, bicycle riding and horseback riding along the beach are also popular activities abundantly available on the Island.
A variety of Festival housing is offered in rented homes, hotels or condominiums.
The center of Feast of Tabernacles activities this year will be Grand Oaks Hall on the Jekyll Island Convention Campus. This temporary convention center is beautifully nestled in Millionaire’s Village, adjacent to the historic Jekyll Club Hotel. It provides a beautiful, park-like setting that complements the millennial feel of the site. Grand Oaks Hall is a 19,000 square foot meeting room that seats up to 1,800. While it may be described by some as a tent-like structure, it is a very modern “tent” with white hard walls, glass windows and doors, carpeting throughout and plenty of lobby space outside the main meeting room. It is fully air-conditioned and heated, with modern restrooms. Comments from some who have already held conventions there include: “This looks better than what you tried to convince us it would look,” and “It’s roomier than the old convention center.” Parking areas are adjacent to the complex, within easy walking distance. The Convention Bureau will provide a free shuttle train from the parking area for those who may want to use that service. Other Feast activities, including the family dance, senior citizen’s lunch, and Bible studies will be held in the adjacent Magnolia Hall and other areas on the convention campus.
Temperatures in October will vary between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit (16 to 24 degrees Celsius) with the possibility of rain. Major airports for arrival and departure are Jacksonville, Florida, and Savannah, Georgia, which are both an hour away, and Brunswick, Georgia which is within 20 miles of the site. A rental car is advised. There is a $5 toll per vehicle every time one enters the island.
