Bart Bornhorst speaks about conversion at Brown County State Park during the Sabbath on Pentecost Weekend. He outlines that our conversion is about the Holy Spirit, it involved dedicating a life toward the way of love, and to be faithful to the end. He also speaks about being a first fruit of the Kingdom.

Sermon Notes

The youth will understand that concept through looking at their parents?

What core values do we need to become a Christian.

1.)  Conversion is not about you, it is about the Holy Spirit.

It is about how you live your life, but first you must have God’s spirit within you.  You might be living your life with Christian attributes, but not having the spirit within you.

Rom. 8:8-9 → If you do not have the spirit within you, you are not a Christian.  Having God’s spirit within us designates ownership.

1 Cor. 6:19-20 → At baptism, you agree to give your life over to God.  We were bought at a price.  We are an ongoing work of God.

Phil. 1:6 → When we are changed into a spirit being, the work in our life is complete.

Conversion means to turn and go in the opposite direction.

Matt. 7:13-14 → Enter by the narrow gate.  Wide gate leads to destruction.  Few find the narrow gate.

God has set a destination of His Kingdom.  Sometimes in our journey towards the Kingdom, we head down the wrong path.  When will God’s work of conversion be complete?

2.)  Christians dedicate their life toward the way of love.

Love first towards God, then towards fellow man.  How do we show our love to God?

John 14:15 → If you love me, keep my commandments.  Our being here today, makes God feel loved.  We need to be here for the love of this day.  We need to love His love and truth.

John 14:21-24

Do you feel in your heart that Jesus Christ has revealed himself to us.  Do you ever look for God’s spirit working in our life?  If we know Jesus Christ, He will reveal himself to us.

1 Pet. 1:8

Love must be poured out upon him and our greatest enemy.

1 John 4:20 → If someone says they love God, but hates their brother -- how can they love God?

I John 3:14-16→ He who does not love his brother abides in death.  We need to serve each other.

3.)  A Christian is faithful until the end.

Our righteousness comes from one place - Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:36-41

Acts 8:26-38  Baptizing the Eunuch - belief in Jesus Christ.

Mark 16:16 → He who believes and is Baptized will be saved.

At baptism, we must believe with our whole heart.

Gal. 3:22

Without faith, we have no hope in pleasing God.

1 John 5:13

2 Tim. 4:7

Paul was elderly in life and reflecting on his life.  He didn’t note his righteousness, he spoke about the faith.

4.)  Christians have the promise of being first fruits of God’s Kingdom

1 Cor. 15:20
