In his defense of grace, Paul previously illustrated that dead men don't sin and those raised from the dead walk in newness of life. Now with his second illustration defending grace, he reminds his readers of something they certainly understood: the law of servitude requires being bound to obey and please your master. It is an exclusive relationship; the one obeyed is your master. One master pays wages while the Other gives a gift.
