2018 Camp Report
Preteen Camp Colorado
Before camp, the weather forecast was a bit dismal with rain predicted each day of camp. But, we have always had wonderful weather at camp Colorado, only 16 miles south of Estes Park, and this year was no exception! We had to adjust our schedule only slightly, and everything turned out extremely well as we were able to fully enjoy all scheduled activities!
We meet at the Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center in Allenspark, Colorado, at an altitude of around 7,000 feet. The camp facility is at the base of Mt. Meeker, rising nearly 14,000 feet into the sky! It is an extremely beautiful area, teeming with all sorts of wildlife. We had one of our Christian living classes interrupted by a young bull moose—the first time some of our adult and teen staff and preteen campers ever saw a live moose!
There were 81 campers, mini-campers, teen and adult staff who greatly enjoyed one another’s company as they participated in archery, canoeing, challenging and exciting field games, multi-ball (a /mixture of kickball, soccer, and speed-a-way), fun and creative arts and crafts, and exhilarating nature hikes—including a visit to the “hidden room” through a narrow passage in a very large rock formation!
Each day we had compass checks and/or Christian living classes centered on this year’s theme, “God’s Vision for You!” We also had nightly sing-alongs, fireside chats, and tested our preteens, teens and adults regarding their Bible knowledge. It is very gratifying to see that many of our adults, teens and youngsters are very adept at learning God’s word!
Our teen assistant counselors enjoyed helping our adult counselors with the preteen campers, but they also enjoyed an hour each evening to spend time with other teen staff in the activity room playing ping pong, foosball, air hockey and just hanging out together.
Camp Colorado is known for excellent accommodations, great food, and above all, a family camp atmosphere where we are all friends striving to love God and each other!
