2019 Camp Report
Côte d’Ivoire Youth Camp
Camp was held from Sunday to Sunday and activities included traditional activities such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, tug-of-war and arts and crafts. We also had the pleasure of introducing some new activities to the campers including speedaway, ultimate frisbee, the card game Spoons and a water balloon toss.
Thanks to our Good Works volunteers, we were also able to provide practical, skills-based English classes, computer skills/professional development classes and swimming classes.
One standout accomplishment among the campers was a general improvement in swimming proficiency. Many campers went from being frightened to get into the water for the first time in their life to being able to swim across the width of the pool with little to no assistance!
We also had some thoughtful, interactive Bible studies and Garder le Nord (French for “Compass Check”) classes every day.
God’s blessings were seen in many instances throughout the week from unusually pleasant weather to well-timed rain and access to the local pool, which had been closed for the past three years but reopened just months before the start of camp.
We were just barely able to fit everyone and all our belongings into the hired bus for our 10-hour trip from Abidjan to Man, and everyone enjoyed good health and safety throughout all the travels.
Those who attended were grateful for the opportunity to build relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ from the region and around the world, and hope to have the opportunity to see each other again in future years.
