E Plurib Unum
We all came from across the globe and from many different walks of life, however, we did not let our national borders or skin color divide us. As Christ says, we are all one body, so we focused on becoming unified and all one spiritual body under Christ.
The campers and staff alike talked freely with one another and opened up about their life and their weaknesses. As the trust and unity deepened, we were able to see into each other’s lives and extend our compassion and comfort to each other. In this safe environment we call "the zone," strangers from across the world became friends who felt like they had known each other all their life. Bonds were formed that will not be broken now that we are spread across the globe again.
We physically became one though our daily team building activities. One challenge the campers really embraced was to get every camper across the pool by “walking on water.” This challenge started off boys against girls, but after the boys completed their challenge they embraced the theme of camp and helped the girls across and even began to help staff members across as well. The teamwork, communication, determination, and enthusiasm the campers demonstrated was truly inspiring.
As the world around us kept turning, Camp Jamaica slowed down our lives and gave us the opportunity to create lasting memories that will forever bond us together as one.
