There was a prophecy that Matthew was inspired to show had been fulfilled, speaking of the Messiah. "He shall be called a Nazarene" (Matt. 2:23). John wrote of "...Him of whom Moses...and also the prophets, wrote-Jesus of Nazareth..." (John 1:45). "Jesus of Nazareth" is how Christ was identified in many significant passages of Scripture. This sermon considers the meaning of the word "Nazareth," and how this connects with several prophecies about the Messiah who was to come, and who would be described and identified by the meaning of this word.
