For Yet a Little While

Hello Brethren,

Can this world go on much longer? No one knows, but we all wonder. How long before God intervenes and sets up His kingdom? We know this is the solution to the world's problems, but the world does not. Instead, it goes on stumbling from one problem to another, and we wonder with Moses who wrote, "Return, O Lord! How long?" (Psalm 90:13).

David asked the same question, "How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?" (Psalms 13:1). I think he expressed the feeling we might have when we look at the world around us. Though we wonder, "How long?" the Scripture assures us that, "He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth" (Romans 9:28).

Though it seems like a long time, it will not be all that much longer; certainly, not in the great plan of God. "Therefore," says Paul, "do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward" (Hebrews 10:35). We must hang in there, as Paul continued, for we "have need of endurance," so that after we "have done the will of God," we "may receive the promise" (verse 36). We must wait patiently for God to send His Son back to this world. "For yet a little while, and He Who is coming will come and will not tarry" (verse 37).

This truth is hidden from the eyes of the world, and it will continue convulsing with problems that seem unsolvable. But no matter the trouble we see all around us and looming ahead, God's purposes are sure. "For thus says the Lord of hosts: 'Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the Lord of hosts" (Haggai 2:6-7).

As we see things going crazy around us, we can keep calm and trust in God to do what He has promised. It will only be a little while longer. As David urged, "Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!" (Psalms 27:14). So, keep your hope in your salvation stirred up. "Do not cast away your confidence," because you must endure "for yet a little while" longer!" (Hebrews 10:35, 37).

Warm regards,
