Letter From Roc Corbett
January 25, 2018
Dear brethren,
Hazel was a dear friend to all in our small congregation in Montana. She was a faithful and dedicated servant of Jesus Christ, and had hosted Sabbath services in her home for years. Hazel deeply loved the truth of God's words. When we had our congregational Bible studies she always had some encouraging words of spiritual wisdom to share, and very insightful questions.
One Sabbath Hazel asked a very sincere question about her own faith, showing both the hope for the future and a little tinge of uncertainty that she would be able to withstand the troubles that will arise before Christ returns. "How can I know that I won't be deceived by the signs and wonders at the end of the age?" In a recent sermon she had heard verses like Matthew 24:24, "For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect." She wanted to be spiritually prepared enough to avoid being deceived.
At the time, now perhaps a decade ago, Hazel was about 93 or 94 years old, and in frail health. Yet, she fully expected she might be alive when Christ returns, and wanted to be sure she would not be deceived. Hazel died about a year later, with that full assurance of faith we had all come to see in her. I found her example to be encouraging, and her question to be one we all need to consider. The sermon for this Sabbath is titled, "Avoiding Deception at the End of the Age." I hope to pass along to you some of the words of life and truth that helped Hazel's faith to be strong. Here is a photo of our dear friend Hazel. I know that all of you who get to meet her one day in the Kingdom of God will enjoy hearing her many good stories of faith. You will love her humor as well!
Sincerely,
Roc Corbett
