People today are fans of many things. They are enthusiastic admirers of sports teams, musicians, television, movies and while they might know a lot of trivia about those individuals–a players stats, a musicians hometown for example, they don't know the player, they don't know the musician.
Likewise, there is a danger in our spiritual lives of us become fans of this way of life. Treating our spirituality as a collection of trivia, of head knowledge with limited follow through. Desiring all the benefits, but not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to obtain them. Christ was very clear in his ministry that he was looking for followers–people who would put their hand to the plow and not look back. Where are we on this continuum? Are you a fan or a follower?
