For the disciples of Christ, the holiday season can bring many challenges. How do we overcome them?

Sermon Notes

This is a partial set of notes and Scriptures used.

The BEST DEFENSE is a GOOD OFFENSE.  Sports, Military use the sentence and has a ring to it...

There is only one set of HOLY DAYS taught and celebrated in the Bible.  Most people are simply unaware.

NOW would be a good time to review some of the booklets dealing with this time of the year.  STUDY, PREPARE, WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

1 - WE follow Christ's example and the clear teachings of the Scriptures.
The holidays of this world have NOTHING to offer like the FEASTS. CHRIST and the Apostles all kept GOD's Ordained Feasts. The Church kept them also in the beginning.

(Luk 2:40)  And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.
(Luk 2:41)  His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
(Luk 4:16)  So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
(Luk 4:17)  And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:
(Luk 4:18)  "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;
(Luk 4:19)  TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."
(Luk 4:20)  Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
HE WAS NOT a part of the established "ecclesiastical group" ...

(Luk 4:21)  And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
(Luk 4:22)  So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?"

WE are called to live by EVERY WORD of God, NOT by fables.  People follow their imaginations as they have always done.  God's commands seem useless to them.

(2Ti 4:3)  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
(2Ti 4:4)  and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Therefore

2 -  Why do people keep "Christmas" ?? Here. NOT because they are "religious".  People are and act like sheep... but  we see many NON-christians doing the same thing... " when in ROME, do as the romans ... "  Feels good, want to get the family together, sincere. We don't want to fault them for that...

Of course, there are those who  will celebrate for religious reasons. We know, we understand.
It is IMPORTANT for us to know and understand that Christmas both PRE-dates and POST-dates Christ and the Apostles.

Study and know... and know...  IN ALL the NT no show of new feasts being introduced.  On the contrary, The Feasts were kept.
EB, 11th edition. After that it started to be watered down and corrupted...

FIRST THING IN THE MORNING we must ask GOD to protects us all through the day because of all the evil.
PROTECT your PERSON and YOUR THINGS.

Rom 12:18  If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

At this time of the year, TEMPERS ARE HOT. People are stressed... spending money they do not have buying stuff they do NOT actually need... pressed by the culture into things they would rather not do... but feel obligated...

GOD does not have HOLY DAYS in winter. U think HE knew something?

(1Pe 3:15)  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
(1Pe 3:16)  having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.

First you need to DETERMINE the attitude of the one asking...  TRY as best as you can. ASK GOD to guide you...

(Mat 8:5)  Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him,

Mat 8:6  saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented."
Mat 8:7  And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."
Mat 8:8  The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.
Mat 8:9  For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
Mat 8:10  When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
Jesus discerned the centurion's attitude.
(Mat 8:13)  Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour.

Mat 11:1  Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.
Mat 11:2  And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples
Mat 11:3  and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?"
Mat 11:4  Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
Mat 11:5  The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Mat 11:6  And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."

John thought, as most did, that Christ was coming to die, not to fulfill the popular expectations of getting rid of the Romans and proclaiming the Kingdom.

Joh 3:1  There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
Joh 3:2  This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."
Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Joh 3:4  Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
Joh 3:5  Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Joh 3:7  Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
Joh 3:8  The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
Joh 3:9  Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
Joh 3:10  Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?

Luk 20:1  Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him
Luk 20:2  and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?"
Luk 20:3  But He answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me:
Luk 20:4  The baptism of John—was it from heaven or from men?"
Luk 20:5  And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
Luk 20:6  But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."
Luk 20:7  So they answered that they did not know where it was from.
Luk 20:8  And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
