Recently we observed the New Testament Passover, and today we are celebrating the First day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. Like many of the Biblical Holydays, this Festival was tied into harvest seasons… after all… the plan of God includes the Father’s desire to harvest human souls to become His sons and daughters in His family.   Approximately, 3500 years ago God took the time to explain to Moses the importance of observing His Holydays. In what we now know of as the book of Leviticus, Moses wrote down God’s instructions for the people to hear, and learn from.   Among these instructions were not only how to determine which days are Holy to God, but a series of rituals and sacrifices that should be performed. Those sacrifices are now obsolete because Jesus Christ was the ultimate and complete sacrifice (Hebrews 10). Today, we proudly observe the New Covenant Holydays.   These special days reveal to us that God doesn’t do anything without a profound purpose, and these ancient rituals and sacrifices were no exception. Today I would like to examine and discuss a powerful ritual that occurred during the very days of Unleavened Bread. I believe there is a lot we can learn from this topic about Gods, plan, the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ and ourselves.   Within this spring festival… a simple but beautiful ceremony occurred that pointed to an essential act of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It goes all the way back to a command in Leviticus 23. It was not a commanded assembly, or a feast day but was performed by the priest on behalf of the people. Today I would like to examine this ceremony and consider what it means for you and me. This sermon was given for the 1st Day of Unleavened Bread.
