Pastor Bart Bornhorst covers three important points to help us maintain a Godly and Holy atmosphere at Sabbath services each week: letting our speech be gracious, being a fountain of light, and being affectionate.

Sermon Notes

Exo. 3:5

1.  Be Gracious

Let your conversation be gracious and appealing.  It should be how we express ourselves to each other all of the time.

What does it mean to offer grace to someone else?  Grace means showing favor to someone else.  It means giving something that doesn’t have to be given to us.  An example of opening a door is something we don’t have to do, it is offering something to them.

How can we show grace by our words.

Col. 4:6 → Let your speech always be with grace.

Do what you can to show compassion.  We should come on the Sabbath day to show kindness.’

Example:  Abraham and Lot.

Gen. 13:5

Through Abraham’s graciousness with Lot, God blessed Abraham.

John 8:10 → A women who was caught in the very act of adultery.  Jesus told her to go and sin no more.  God is also very gracious towards us.  We don’t deserve life, but it is offered through Jesus Christ.  When we are gracious to others, it pleases God very much.

2.  Be a Fountain of Life every Sabbath

Establish an atmosphere of edifying each other.  Greek Meaning:  Act of building up.  How can we encourage them and boost their confidence.  God calls us to be this way.

Rom. 14:19 → Pursue thing that make peace and edify each other.  Don’t always focus on disagreements that take away from each other.

Paul is addressing on what we should eat (food offered to idols).

Rom. 14:13 → Don’t put a stumbling block in our brethren way.

We can can get on all kinds of disagreements.

What are ways that we can build each other up?  In our discussion after church.  Perhaps maintain the message in the sermon or sermonette.

We can discuss God’s plan of salvation.  God wants us to be in his family for eternity.

Prov. 10:11 → The words of the godly are a life giving fountain.  Think of the importance of our words as we attend church.  The words of the wicked conceal evil intentions.

Prov. 10:20-21 → Words of gody are like sterling silver words of the fools are worthless.

Prov. 16:22-24 → Discretion is a life giving fountain to those that possess it.

The words of the wise are persuasive.

Psalm 37:30-31 → Our conversation should be filled with How the Law of God can help us.  The Law is not meant to burden us or bring us down.

3.  Be Affectionate

Give love.  Come with a mindset of giving love.

1 Thes. 5:26

Greet all brethren with a Holy kiss.

1 Pet. 5:14

Rom. 16:16

We can be affectionate with just our words.

Luke 7:36

We are told to show our love to God by our actions.

James 2:14

Can we say we are men and women of God if we don’t express the love that God has given us.

How can we put all of these points into practice.  We have to prepare and put them into thought.  Study to see how Christ was this way and how he dealt with other people.  He was kind and a fountain of life to all people.  Think of our brothers and sisters and their needs.  We all have areas in our life that are weak.
