Just a few days before the end of Jesus Christ's earthly ministry, it is recorded that He experienced an Ezekiel 9:4 “sighing and crying” type of mourning per Matthew 23:37 --- when with great emotion He uttered the words “Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” Christ was mourning over the impending suffering of Jerusalem and surrounding Judea. When Christ uttered those words, besides expressing His genuine emotions at that moment, He was giving us a perfect example of godly love and compassion for the world that we should also have. This message describes two beneficial impacts that such “sighing and crying” mourning will have on us: (1) It will comfort us (Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.”; and (2) It will help us grow in the Christ-like love and compassion that will be needed to better serve humanity during His upcoming reign on earth.
