The beatitudes are familiar to many of us, yet the language can seem old fashion and perhaps hard to connect with. They form the start of what is probably the greatest speech ever uttered, they set the scene for Jesus's must concise and direct teachings on the Kingdom of God. The first three have a similar focus and are well worth serious consideration.
