As humans, we don't enjoy being told what to do. It tends to ruffle our feathers so to speak, and we often respond negatively when what we're instructed to do conflicts with our own desires. Frequently, mankind desires power less for control of others, and more for autonomy. When Satan offered Christ the world and all its kingdoms, he offered Him both. Power and control over those kingdoms, but to a certain degree, autonomy over His own story. Christ rightly pointed Satan and through the words recorded for us back to God, and His instruction regarding authority. What does our intersection with authority look like in various places in our lives? Are we calibrated to God's word?
