Speaker: Lud Kiramidjian Date: 6/29/24 Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 4:17 “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” are infinitely profound beyond full expression and comprehension. This verse is intended for all of humanity (the Church of God in Corinth that Paul originally wrote the letter to; all other “called, chosen and faithful” first fruits down through the ages who will be in the first resurrection at Christ’s coming; and by extension --- all others who will eventually enter the Kingdom of God). This verse tells us that although we must experience suffering in this physical life, that suffering cannot be compared to the glorious eternal state of existence that God intends for us in the Kingdom of God. In this message, we will examine this verse in the context of the recorded sufferings Paul experienced during his life. Then we will parse the verse into four word-phrases (“our light affliction”, “is but for a moment”, “is working for us”, and “a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”) --- examining each of these phrases in more detail. Our sufferings are not worthy to be compared to the infinitely glorious, perfect, and eternal future --- without suffering, pain and tears --- that God has planned for us.
