Allergies may not be mentioned in the Bible but there may be a lesson for us.

[Steve Myers] Not sure if you have problems with allergies, but I do. My eyes start to water. They get swollen up. I start sneezing. You can probably tell my voice sounds a little funny today because everything around here seems to be blooming. I don't know what it reminds you of. Sometimes it reminds me that it is really a pain when you're sniffling and sneezing and have all the problems that come with allergies. But it did remind me of something a little bit different this morning was I was blowing my nose. And that was a passage that's found in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. It doesn't specifically talk about allergies, but it reminded me of this because it does talk about the body and how the body functions. In verse 17 it says, "If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?" Now that reminded me of my sniffely nose. But it goes on to say, "God has set the members each one of them in the body just as He pleased" (1 Corinthians 12:17-18).

And when the body works it is a perfect representation of what God's church is supposed to be because He goes on in verse 26 and says, "If one member suffer, all the members suffer with it" (1 Corinthians 12:26). Boy isn't that the case? If you've got allergies and you're suffering and your eyes are itching and your nose is running it's a real hassle. And the body doesn't work the way it's supposed to and it affects just about everything you do. And so it's a good reminder that when the body functions right, that's the way it's supposed to be.

So for me I've got to remember we're supposed to fulfill the part of the body that God's given us to do. And so we all have to do that effectively. We have to do it in a way that brings honor and brings glory to God. And so maybe the next time you're sniffling with allergies, you can remember how God compares the church to a body. And God's church is supposed to function properly. And so remember that when it comes to this allergy season that we want to hopefully get by this allergy season, get over it, and function the way we're supposed to just like God's church is supposed to.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
