National Chocolate Ice Cream Day is a reminder of a valuable spiritual principle.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] June 7th is an auspicious day here in America. It is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, probably a day that should be all around the world not just here in America. One of my favorite desserts, chocolate ice cream. I don't know about you, but I love chocolate ice cream. And hearing about this unofficial holiday made me wonder, is chocolate mentioned in the Bible?

Well, I started looking and I found Proverbs 25:16. Okay, it doesn't say anything about chocolate ice cream in the New King James version. In the New King James here's what it says, "Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need lest you be filled with it and vomit." Well, I began searching other passages, other translations. In the Message here's what it says, Proverbs 25:16, it says, "When you're given a box of candy, don't gulp it all down. Don't eat too much chocolate or you'll make yourself sick."

So what does that have to do with National Chocolate Ice Cream day? Absolutely nothing, but I think there is a little bit of a lesson here. It's a good reminder. We are so blessed, especially here in America. We have so many things. We have so much sweetness. We have so many good things. But the point here is even too much of a good thing is still too much. It's too much.

So it reminds us, God's telling us to have self-control, be careful of excess. Watch out for what our decisions are because if we have that extra-large giant chocolate ice cream cone, it will make us sick. And so we've got to be careful what we eat and more importantly we've got to be careful what goes into our mind.

So let's do things in balance. So let's be careful and have the self-control that we need.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
