Sometimes the best way to heal is to leave something alone and move forward.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] When I was a little boy, I was definitely a little boy and often got cut up and hurt and got scrapes and nicks and bumps and bruises, but I also had a challenge whenever I had a little scab, a little cut that was healing. I had this problem, I just couldn't leave it alone. And my mom would continually say, "Stop touching it. It's not going to heal if you keep picking at that thing." You ever been in that situation? Yeah, and I got to thinking about that the other day now that I'm grown up and have little grandchildren now. You know, you have to quit touching it if you're going to heal.

Are there times in our life we have to let it go? Let go of the hurt, let go of the mistakes that are in our past, let go of the guilt, let go of those failures, those things that drag us down and put it in God's hands. Quit picking at it, quit touching it. Quit going back to that over and over and over again. That's certainly a lesson that God really wants us to take to heart.

There's a proverb that reminds us of that very thing. In Proverbs 4:25, it says this... Here's how we can quit touching it so we can get on with life. It says, "Let your eyes look straight ahead, straight ahead. Let your eyelids look right before you." In other words, don't get off to the side. Don't get sidetracked, that's when you're going to start going back to those bad thoughts, that guilty feeling, that hurt, that fear, that anger, the failures, they all come back when we get off track. So, keep focused, it says. "Ponder the path of your feet. Let all your ways be established. Don't turn to the right or the left. Remove your foot from evil."

And so God gives us a plan because He's got something greater than our worries and our fears. He's got something in mind for us greater than our past mistakes. That doesn't have to define us, but we've got to quit going back there. We've got to quit touching that and quit scraping at those past wounds and let God totally heal us because He can help us to stand strong and truly let it go. So let's keep moving straight forward and we'll begin to see that healing power that comes from God.

That's "BT Daily." We'll see you next time.
