Even Christians are debating the acceptability of the gay lifestyle. What does the Bible say?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] There's a duck dilemma that's raging in the news right now. You probably heard that Duck Dynasty's star Phil Robertson made some comments about the gay lifestyle, and he equated homosexuality to sin. What's God's thinking on this topic? That's what so many are talking about today, and in fact Christians have different viewpoints on that.

Well, how should we address this? What should we think? Well, I think first of all we have to remember that God loves sinners, but He doesn't love the sin. John 3:16 says God so loved the world, that's all of us, that He sent His Son, that Jesus Christ would die for our sins, to become our Savior. So God loves people, but He doesn't like sinful behavior. He says that's unacceptable. And so are homosexual acts acceptable before God? Well, there's an interesting passage in 1 Corinthians chapter 6. Let's take a look at that for just a moment. In verse 9 he begins to point out very clearly when he says, "Don't you know the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God?" So you're not going to be a part of God's family forever in unrighteousness. Now, how does he define that? He says, "Don't be deceived."

So this is something that could fool us if we're not careful. He goes on to say, "Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers," he says, "Nor extortioners," none of those. None of those sinful behaviors. If we're an individual who practices these things, he said you will not inherit the Kingdom of God. So God's very clear. These acts are sinful and could keep us out of the family of God, keep us out of the Kingdom of God forever, but there's hope. You see we have a Savior, and he goes on to say in verse 11, "Such were some of you."

So the hope is we could come out of those lifestyles, we come out of that behavior, and he says we could be washed. He says, "But you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God." So God's very clear. He hates sinful behavior, and we have to come out of those behaviors in order to be a part of the Kingdom of God. So God gives us the perspective that we should have. So don't get sidetracked into politics and all those types of things. Go to your Bible. See what the Bible says, and understand that God loves us and wants us to come out of sinful behavior.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
