Are we "full value" Christians? Are we fully committed to God?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] "Are you the real deal?" The Apostle Paul poses that question in 1 Corinthians 11. And it's around the scenario of the Passover. And what he says in verse 28 of chapter 11 of 1 Corinthians, he says, "let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup."

And the point of the real deal is that word for "Examine." Examine. That is the Greek word dokimazo. Dokimazo. And it means to test or to prove or to scrutinize. And he says you look at yourself. You examine yourself.

And really what a dokimazo was, and the way they used this word in ancient Greece, was a banker who would check the veracity of a coin to make sure no one had shaved down the edges. So, they looked at these coins to make sure that they were full value.

And that's what we're supposed to do with our lives. We look at our lives. Are we a full-value Christian? Of course, we'll come to the conclusion that we've got some room to grow. And that's why we need Christ. That's why we need a savior. And so, our instruction here is to dokimazo. Check to make sure we're the real deal. Are we fully committed to God, and then take the Passover. That's the admonition here. Examine yourselves, and then... And so, take the Passover because we need a savior in order to be the real deal.

That's "BT Daily," we'll see you next time.
