Often the key to self-control is to let God grab control.

Transcript

[Gary Petty] I've been reading a book by Dr. David Stoop called You Are What You Think and in this book he has this amazing, interesting analogy. He says most of the time we approach life like we're driving a car. We're in control. We're having this car go where we want it to go and we're afraid to listen to directions. But God is sitting beside us giving us directions, telling us where we're supposed to go, where we're supposed to end up, but we won't listen because we're too afraid to give up control. The other way that we deal with life is we say, "Okay, God, You're in control." We jump in the back seat and the car careens all over the place, knocking over people, and making wrecks all over the place while we're in the back seat saying, "God, take control. Take control."

Well, the reality is the secret to self-control is when we drive the car, our lives, but we let God sit beside us. He gives us directions. He tells us where to go. He tells us how to do it. He teaches us how to drive. We talk about getting more self-control in our lives. We all need more self-control. Well, the main key to self-control is you're in charge of your life. You're driving the car, but let God give you the directions.
