The Bible interprets itself!

Transcript

[Steve Myers] Another key to understanding the Bible is to remember, the Bible interprets itself. Sometimes you might run across something that seems contradictory, that maybe seems to be saying something different, maybe even confusing. So what do you do?

Well one of the keys to interpreting the Bible is to remember...look at the clear passages. Look at the ones that are easy to understand, and always interpret the difficult ones by the ones that are absolutely clear, because the Bible doesn't contradict. The Bible complements itself. And of course, that's so important when you want to interpret what it says.

Of course the other thing is, sometimes we come in to reading the Bible with our own personal opinion, and we try to force our opinion into the context of the Bible. Now, we can't do that. We don't want to do that. What we need to do is find other relevant scriptures that make it clear, that help to give us the correct meaning of those passages. And I think an important thing to remember is what Peter wrote for us in 2 Peter 1:20. Here's what Peter recorded for us. It says, "Prophecy never came by the will of man." Don't force your own opinion into this, but he says this, "But it came by holy men of God, who spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."

So the Word of God is inspired. It's inspired by the Word of God. It is His word, and it is true. So when you come to something that's unclear, maybe confusing, be sure and look for the clear passages. Don't force your own interpretation, but always let the Bible interpret itself.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
