Satan is our adversary, we must stay vigilant against his attacks and stay close to God.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] Christ warned us in Matthew 24 to watch. There are many facets to that particular word. Certainly, He said, "Immediately, look out for deception." We have to also stay spiritually wide awake. In fact, there's a third aspect to this that's also connected with our spiritual health and that is the fact that we have to watch out for the dangers, watch out for not just physical dangers, but the spiritual danger that's out there.

Spiritual dangers. The Apostle Paul talked about oftentimes the church could be vulnerable to the wolves that are out there that would come in and take advantage of God's flock. And so, a number of times throughout his writings in the Book of Acts it also talks about savage wolves, those spiritual dangers that are out there. Now, of course, that means there's a power behind those dangers. One of the passages that emphasize that very fact is found in 1 Peter 5:8. It says this, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."

So, a part of this aspect of watching is to be sure we're staying aware of the powerful, behind-the-scenes influence, this unseen danger that's out there because Satan and his demons would love to infect us and help us to ignore God's way and fall short of true spiritual relationship with God.

And so, we have to understand that and be on guard. Be on guard and watch out for those spiritual dangers because if we stay close to God, He promises us that by the power of His spirit, by staying close to God, we can invoke God's power and stay close to God. And when we do that, what happens to the Devil? Well, James 4:7 says, "When we stay close to God and we resist the Devil, he will flee." So, let's stay on our toes. Let's be sure that we are watching out for those spiritual dangers. That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
