With so much to consider, it is easy to lose our focus. To finish the race, we have to keep our eyes on the finish line.

[Steve Myers] God’s given us a way to win this great spiritual race He’s called us to. He tells us in Hebrews chapter 2 to consider Jesus Christ, to consider the amazing Savior that we have. And in fact, that’s a fourth thing along this path that God wants us to consider.

We’re to consider those that have gone before, so we look at Hebrews chapter 11, that describe this amazing faith of fame, of all of these amazing people that have gone before. So we have a listing of God’s faithful people, men and women of faith. And then He tells us, look at ourselves. Look at the race that God’s called us to and get rid of every weight of sin that weighs us down so that we can run with endurance. He tells us this race is a lifetime race – it’s not just a sprint, but it’s ongoing through the remainder of our life. And then most importantly, He tells us something critical – this is in Hebrews chapter 12, verse 2. How are we going to run this race? He says we better be focused. He says, “Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.” And so He says amazing race is run by faith in Jesus Christ. He says, “Consider Him” – think about Him. So we have to consider Jesus Christ. And as we consider Him, He reminds us of that – first, that He’s the Author and Finisher of our faith. In other words, He started us on this race – He’s going to help us finish this race, as well (Hebrews 12:2-3).

He said then this in verse 2, “Who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” He says, “For consider Him, who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.”

So let’s think for a moment. Let’s consider Jesus Christ and this race that God has called us to. Where’s our focus in this race? Our focus has to be on Christ. He started us on this race, you know, through God the Father’s call, and He is the Finisher. We’re told very clearly that He who started a good work in you will see it to completion. We can make it to the end of this race. In fact, not only is He the Author and Finisher of our faith – we’re told He’s the Beginning and the End. He’s the Alpha, the Omega, He’s our leader, He’s our guide, He’s our captain, He’s our forerunner. Hebrews even talks about that, that He went before us. So talk about some encouraging words that were given here in Hebrews. Yes, He’s the Author and Finisher of our faith, and He endured terrible things. He endured the beating, He endured the crucifixion, and He pointed us to the fact that He did it. He completed that race, pointing to the fact we can, too. We can, too. We can look to Him because, after all, He’s the greatest winner of all time. He set the pace. He was despised. He was beaten. He was crucified. And yet through the power of the resurrection, He’s there at the right hand of the Father.

Is there hope for us? Can we really win the race that God’s called us to? Can we be a part of the family of God? Will we be there in the kingdom? He says yes. He says yes, absolutely. When we keep running, and we run with endurance, we have the ultimate example in Jesus Christ. And when we stay focused, and we stay in this spiritual lane of this race that we’ve been called to, and we don’t quit, we don’t give up, we don’t miss out – He says we can be there. We can be like the example of the apostle Paul. Remember what he told Timothy? He said, “Timothy, I’ve fought the good fight.” He told him, “I’ve finished the race. I’ve kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7).

You know, when we look to Jesus Christ, when we focus on Him, we consider Him, it’s no different for you and for me. We can finish the race through the power of our Savior Jesus Christ. And so let’s run this race that we’ve been called to. Let’s finish this race. Let’s go on through the power of God’s Holy Spirit. We can overcome and because we have a Savior, we can finish this most amazing race.

Well, that’s BT Daily. We’ll see you next time.
