A sign hanging on the wall of a small business read:  "If you don't believe the dead come back to life you've never been here at quitting time."  Unfortunately, many employers feel this way about their employees.

Points to build on

What are some of the traits employers are looking for in a good employee?  Developing these three traits can help you keep your job.

1. Dependability.  Employees who show up on time, be where they should be and finish what they start have a great advantage in keeping a job during cutbacks.

Proverbs 12:24:  "The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor."

Proverbs 13:17:  "A wicked messenger falls into trouble, But a faithful ambassador brings health."

2. Responsibility.  Employers want employees who will accomplish the work assigned to them in the allotted time given to do it.

Proverbs 10:26:  "As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to those who send him."

3. Enthusiasm.  Employers want a person who approaches even the most menial tasks with a positive "can do" attitude.

Ecclesiastes 9:10:  "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might..."

Application

Be diligent by being on time, responsible by completing the job and show positive enthusiasm and you will be in the best position to keep your job.
