It may be in old age as we near death. It may be through the health of our children. Or it may be the conditions of the world. In times of calamity, people call out to God to save them. Most people do not have time for God when things are okay, but let trouble come and they want to be rescued—rescued so that they can continue living the way they have.

God tells us clearly that He will not hear in the day of our calamity if we do not obey Him (Jeremiah 2:28-29; Proverbs 1:26-28). We do not value water until we know what thirst is. Often we do not value Jesus Christ and His sacrifice until our calamities strike. Seek first His Kingdom and everything else will be in order (Matthew 6:33).
