The people saw God's wrath upon Egypt and rejoiced in their deliverance. They did not take long before complaints began to come in. Even after God was forced to punish them in the desert, the people still flattered Him with their mouths and lied with their tongues (Psalm 78:36-37). Their hearts were not steadfast and, they were not true to the covenant that they agreed to.

If people can act this way toward an Almighty God who had given them so much, is it any wonder we see so much of this in our society today among humans? Flattery and lies seem to be a set of tools that we all possess and use at will. It is bad enough between humans, but it is beyond belief toward a loving and generous God. Before we condemn the Israelites, though, let us pause to ask how we are doing in this area. If these are tools that we use, the time has come to lay them aside and take up the tools God provides. Honest words, spoken from a sincere heart are what please God. You cannot fool Him.

It's really unarguable that the present-day is already infiltrated by the 'father of lies'. We prefer to comfort ourselves with lies than 'hurt' with the truth. Only God himself can do a cleansing of the adulterated hearts of men.

Though the behavior of the Israelites was disappointing, They did not have God's Holy Spirit to overwhelm human nature which is enmity towards God and faithless.

Thank you for your lesson. This is so true. Human nature continues to fight against us. We Christians have to fight the good fight to remain true to God and self. It's a tough journey and with God's help all things are possible. Repentance is very helpful and we must remember to always be truthful. Most of all; not to try and impress God or someone by falttery just because we want our way. I find that truth sets us free from the bondage of guilt. So as it has been stated (in and article)before by a fellow UGC staff member. "T.H.I.N.K." before one acts. "Think. Subscribe to a simple formula, "THINK," before speaking of any person or subject that is perhaps controversial. If what you were going to say doesn't pass the following tests, don't say it. T--Is it true? H--Is it helpful? I--Is it inspiring? N--Is it necessary? K--Is it kind?"
