It is a loving act of God to bring us back to Him. C.S. Lewis wrote, "God whispers to us in our pleasures; He speaks to us in our work; He shouts at us in our pain."

There are times when we refuse to listen to God or to pay any attention to what His Word is saying. Finally He uses a severe trial to get our attention so that we will listen. In this way even trials can work together for our good, but cannot separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:28, 35). He will be there to mercifully comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
