Taking Things for Granted
Have you ever made a list of things you take for granted? I have a long list. I expect to see my children and grandchildren next week or next month. I expect to wake up in the morning and I expect that there will be food on the table. I could go on—as you could. As time passes, we can grow increasingly thoughtless about things that we really do need in life—until suddenly they are gone and we wonder why.
My dear mother lives day by day. I do not know whether or not I will see her tomorrow. This experience has driven a lesson home to me. Kiss your wife and children every day and be thankful for all that you have. Paul gave good advice to the Colossians when he said: "Be thankful" (Colossians 3:15). You can make every day "Thanksgiving Day."
