That First Desire
An ancient proverb explains: "It is easier to suppress the first desire, than to satisfy all that follow it." Weighty and powerful words here. The Scriptures warn us about lusting for that which we do not have (Exodus 20:17). Giving in to that first strong desire does not satisfy, and only leads to further desires. We are able to talk ourselves into many things, and we think we deserve them all.
When, with God's help, we correctly control lust, we gain strength and character.
