There is wisdom in those words—our society runs on money. Living in poverty is nothing to be desired. God does not want people to suffer that way. Israel was to remember that it is God who gives us the power to get wealth, and it is not by total reliance on our own hands (Deuteronomy 8:17-18). He gave that to Israel and King Solomon—but all with the understanding that they were to know Him, the source.

We go to school, learn a trade and work hard in order to make a good living and to leave something for our children. That is something God blesses us for doing (Proverbs 13:22). Dollars can be a root of evil if we let them. The evil is not in the dollar, it is in the mind of the person. Serve God as your first goal, and He will bless you in every way (Malachi 3:10).
