Sometimes our family would be in the back yard, basement or washroom. We would not hear the knock so we wouldn’t open the door. The caller would assume nobody was home and leave. We could have opened the door if we were able to hear it, but our distance from the door hindered us. Just because we had the physical ability to open the door, our lack of awareness to the knock prevented us from opening the door.

The Bible notes the account of virgins awaiting a wedding. All had some ability, but not all had enough ability. When the bridegroom came, that was the opportunity for all. Those who were ready and in a position that mattered were able to open the door (Matthew 25:1-13). Ability is of little account without opportunity, but when opportunity knocks, you need to be ready and in a position to open the door.

And when we think we are ready, we found that our legs are still weak and so we notice that are walking very, very, slowly! So the prayer and the silence is a way to find forces to open the door!
